Jazz and Roots

Eric Bascom, composer, guitarist and bandleader of jazz, blues and popular music. Born Sept. 3, 1953, in Dexter, Maine. Eric grew up listening to music in and outside of the Church. A self-taught guitarist who has had the opportunity to play and perform with some of the finest talent starting back in the late 1970s at jam sessions with Majeed Charles Greenlee, Art Matthews, Atilla Zoller, Max Roach, and many others. Stopped performing publicly once he married and had children. He started performing publicly again in the early 1990s after raising two children with his wife Judy. First, as a bandleader with a vocalist, Ethel Lee, that produced one cd, “All That Jazz” by Ethel lee and the Eric Bascom Quintet (released in 2000). Later, Eric performed almost exclusively in a trio with bassist Genevieve Rose and trumpet/flugelhornist Edward Brainerd producing one recording, “Trio” ( released in 2007).

Currently, Eric has been working with a variety of musician in various group ensembles, always as a leader, and has written the music of his latest CD, “No Enemy”, featuring Ted Levine on alto saxophone/flute, Jeff Holmes on trumpet/flugelhorn/piano, Genevieve Rose on bass violin, Ed Brainerd on trumpet/flugelhorn,
David Wertman on bass violin, Mario DeCiutiis on MalletKat, Bily Arnold and Mark Holovnia on drums.

Eric currently lives in Western Massachusetts with his wife, Judy, and continues to perform throughout New England and New York.
